What to Expect on Your First Yoga & Breathwork Retreat
You've been thinking about it for months. Maybe years. A retreat — time away, just for you, somewhere beautiful, with space to breathe and reset. And now you're finally doing it.
But if this is your first time, you probably have questions. Will I be good enough at yoga? What actually happens at a breathwork session? Will I cry in front of strangers?
This guide answers all of it, honestly and practically, so you can arrive feeling prepared, open and ready to receive everything the experience has to offer.
What Is a Yoga & Breathwork Retreat, Exactly?
A retreat is not a yoga class or a wellness weekend. It's an immersive experience, usually between 5 and 10 days, where movement, breathwork, nature, community and rest come together to create conditions for real change.
Unlike a holiday, a retreat asks something of you. It invites you to slow down, go inward and meet parts of yourself you may have been too busy to notice. It's not always comfortable, but it is almost always transformative.
At Sirius Retreats, we combine yoga (vinyasa, aerial and yoga nidra), pilates reformer, embodied dance, sauna and cold plunge, jungle hiking and creative workshops into a six-day experience designed for women who are ready to come home to themselves.
What Does a Typical Retreat Day Look Like?
Every retreat has its own rhythm, but a typical day might look something like this.
Mornings usually begin with a gentle wake up followed by a yoga or movement practice. This sets the tone for the day and brings you into your body before your mind takes over.
The middle of the day is often where the deeper work happens; breathwork, creative sessions, group sharing or simply resting and integrating.
Afternoons tend to be freer. Personal time, journaling, swimming, exploring the local area. Integration is just as important as the practices themselves.
Evenings at Sirius often become the most memorable part of the whole retreat. A shared meal, a ceremony, a dance session or a gathering under the stars.
Will I Be Good Enough? (The Question Everyone Asks)
Yes. Always yes.
Retreat yoga is not Instagram yoga. There are no advanced poses to master, no competition, no performance. The practices are designed to be accessible to all levels and beginners often have the most profound experiences precisely because they arrive without expectations.
At Sirius, all sessions are guided with the intention of exploration, enjoyment and connection with your body, not achievement.
What to Pack for a Tropical Wellness Retreat
Keep it simple. Comfortable clothes for movement, swimwear, light clothing for warm evenings, one or two outfits for the evening gatherings and comfortable shoes for the jungle hike. Bring a journal because you will want to write. And bring an open heart, genuinely the most important thing.
What If I Get Emotional?
You might. Many women do, and that's not a problem, it's often the whole point.
Retreat creates conditions for emotional release precisely because it removes the noise and distraction of daily life. When you slow down, feel your body and spend time in nature, things that have been waiting to be felt finally have space to move.
Tears are welcome at Sirius. So is laughter, silence, uncertainty and joy. The container is safe, the group is small (maximum 7 women) and the team holds the space with genuine care.
Your first retreat will very likely become one of the most meaningful experiences of your life. Not because it's perfect, but because it's real.
If you're feeling the call, trust it. The Wild Woman Retreat at Sirius runs 24 to 29 September 2026 in Koh Phangan, and it's designed for exactly this moment in your life.
